Dr. Obaid Saqer Busit is a practising lawyer in Dubai and the UAE and the owner of the law firm Busit Advocates and Legal Consultants, headquartered in Dubai. He is born and raised in Dubai, and remains based in this city and central hub for the Middle East. Busit is married with one child. His fields of legal expertise are Civil Law, Common Law and Islamic Law, and legal specialisation is in International Trade, Agency and Distribution, Intellectual Property and Arbitration.
Obaid Saqer Busit acquired his undergraduate with honours in law at the UAE University, UAE in 1984; a Master’s degree in Comparative Law from the University of San Diego, California, USA; and a PhD in Commercial Arbitration from the University of Durham in England in 1991. These qualifications include diplomas in 1985 American Legal System from the University of San Diego, California, USA; and in 1984 LLB Law (Shariah Subsidiary) from the UAE University, UAE. From 1997 until 1999 he was Lecturer at the Legal Institute, Dubai, UAE. From 2001 until 2006 Obaid Saqer Busit lectured for the Faculty of Law at the UAE University. He has written many articles and papers both in Arabic and in the English languages.
Subsequent to his academic studies, Obaid Saqer Busit acquired his legal license to practise law in the UAE in 1992. He gained renown for his success in noteworthy cases.In the sme year one of Dr. Busit’s first cases was against the Dubai government Free Zone for US$400 million, which he won. The success of this case actually led him to being elected into a position within the government of Dubai. In 1994-2000 he was made the Director General of Dubai’s Department of Ports and Customs. He was elected to the post of Chairman of the World Customs Organization Council in 2000. From 1998 until 2000 Obaid Saqer Busit was elected WCO Regional Vice chairman of the North Africa, Near and Middle East Region.

In 2007 the firm successfully arbitrated for the Galadari Group within three months, for a case that had been in deadlock since 1985.
